Introduction -

I recently bought a few sets of SpeedBleeders from www.speedbleeder.com for TPC members. The install was simple and went without a hitch. These bleeders allow you to bleed your brakes on your own. This is usually a two man job. If you race your car, you'll want to bleed your brakes fairly often and this makes it very easy.

You Need -

  • 10mm wrench
  • 4 SpeedBleeders part no. SB10125 for 5th Gen Preludes.
    • Check their site for other applications
  • 1 brake bleeder kit
    • From your local autoparts store. (Canadian Tire) This is just a hose that fits over the bleed screw with a small clear canister that collects the brake fluid
  • 1 bottle of brake fluid
    • DOT 3 or DOT 4 is needed.

Install -

Jack up the front of the car and support it on jackstands. Remove the front wheels. Use the wrench to remove the driver side bleeder screw.

Use the shop towel to catch any fluid that spills out. Insert and screw in the SpeedBleeder until it's tight with the wrench. Do not overtorque this screw. Loosen the bolt 1/4 to 1/2 turn and put the bleeder hose over the end of the speedbleeder.

Make sure the brake fluid reservoir is full. Get in the car and pump the brakes a few times to the floor. This should bleed out whatever air got into the system. Retighten the bleeder screw and move on to the passenger side.

Just repeat this procedure for the back and you're done.

I flushed my entire brake system when I did the install and used DOT 3 brake fluid that's made for Ford vehicles rated to a 550 degree boiling point. You can get this brake fluid at just about any automotive parts store.

The speedbleeders will not work if there is too much air in the brake lines. The brakes will not give enough pressure to open the one way valve in the SpeedBleeder screw. This should never be a problem, unless something really wrong happens to your brake system.

Russel apparently makes these as well, but I can't tell if it's just the same product rebadged or their own manufacture. I called Summit Racing and tried to order them, but the application chart was screwy for the Prelude and I just gave up.
