take it off, shake it and if the internals are moving freely its good, if not it may be too late lol.

Just replace it based on mileage, I do mine every 2-3 oil changes. (8k per oil change) with the cheap fram stuff.

    ok thx i found it.

i noticed there is a metal stub on the upper hose. do i remove this piece of metal or do i wiggle it off with this piece still attached?

once the upper hose is off, do i just pull the pcv value out from its hole?

sorry, i'm new to this. need clearer instructions then pull out & replace, lol.

To test it turn the engine on and then clamp shut the hose that comes from it. You should hear a click when you clamp/unclamp but you can't always hears it when the engine is on. If not try what the other guy said and shake it.

To remove it, remove the hose clamp with some pliers (press and wiggle it up the hose). The take the hose off the valve. Then just pop the valve up and out of the engine and replace. That's all there is to it.
