i hear alot of people use that argument, but i have to ask: where in this city do you live and where are you commuting to?

i commute from midtown to downtown. but even if they jacked the ONE WAY ticket fare to $4, it would still be cheaper for me to take the ttc. now if i had free parking then it would be a different story (car would be cheaper).

now if you say the car is more convenient, then yes, absolutely.

it doesnt matter... you pay the same fare whether you go from Finch to Union or Bloor to Union

i know, thats why i used the parking example. for me, thats the deal breaker that makes driving more expensive.

Technically, anyone who uses any kind of transportation infrastructure in Toronto is "involved". People should be getting angry, IMHO. The TTC is being held back by unionized wage costs, pure and simple.

73% of the TTC's annual operating expenses are salaries and wages. Guess how that compares to the MTA transportation system in New York... I'll give you a hint: swap around the numbers in "73" and you'll be right on the mark.

If I lived in the sticks I'd probably take the TTC less and would be happier for it...I'm not sure how that makes sense.

Why can't they implement a fare system like GO? Pay for the distance travelled. Many US cities have this for their transit systems.

cuz it'll take them 10 hours to cut each token into pieces manually

not just US cities. Internationally it's fare by distance

Everywhere has this in their transit system. But when you work off of a token, one token pays all.

i think the idea of one token pays all is great
so easy and effortless and no thinking involved

if you think about it the TTC is already cheap in the grand scheme of things .... all they would do is make certain areas's a higher cost anyways like they do in London

So, 10 tokens are going to cost $27.50......hahahaha.........almost $30.....whatever.

Perhaps if the salary, as I think GW or Flavour mentioned was not as ridiculous as it was, there would be less of a problem and such frequent increase in fares. IIRC, during statutory holidays, I believe the salary is between the $60-$75/hour range. Please correct me if I am wrong. Is that REALLY necessary to drive a bus/train/collect fares when there are less people depending on the service during these times?
