hey wazup guys,

i got a 5th gen lude and i'm travelling from brampton to scarboro on a daily basis so i'm putting a hella lotta clics on my baby. I was just wondering how many clics can i reasonlably expect my engine to last b4 i have to get a new one, and what other things ie tranny etc would i have to replace before, after or with the engine. also how much would a new or used engine cost.

thanks for any feedback guys.

I also make consecutive trips from Brampton to Scarboro. Put it this way I got a 1990 with 230,000kms on it all original tranny and motor, nothing in my engine bay has been replace except for timing belt and the regular tune up and my K@N filter. Getting a JDMB20, Do I need it? NO. I'm gettin it becuase it's only $800 and has a bit more kick...my engine still burns clean, no oil lose or anything, starts on the coldest days one try. still get that gassy smell out of the exhaust and that nice sign of a clean engine water leaking out of the exhaust. So don't worry

Worchild has a 1987 with just over 300,000 km's without a rebuild. If you take care of the engine, regular oil changes, change the tranny fluid every two years, I don't see why you can't get at least 250K km out of it.

I'm assuming that trek is mostly highway. If so, thats the best way to put clicks on your engine. Much healthier that city driving. Just take care of the essentials and you'll be fine.

I'm more concerned about how VTEC equipped Preludes are going to hold up. And I'm DEFINATELY concerned about my transmission. Already two rebuilds and now I get a grind when cold from the 1-2 shift. The fun never ends with this car.

Yea, i agree with you, as long as you take care of your car you should be ok....i know you were talking about ludes, but this goes for every car, they are just like babies, you take care of them and they are not gonna get sick as often and grow up to be respectable...I used to have a Chevy Caprice (1990) and (NO ITS NOT A TYPO WHEN I SAY THIS) it had 900,000 km on it, ohhhh yea, it used to be a cop and taxi car before, so it was police modified V8 300 hp monster, i took care of it and it still ran without any problems.... so you get my point now, and once again YES IT HAD 900, 000 K's on it ask Milad.

Well i think they age pretty well there is a 3rd gen with over half a million clicks http://home.iximd.com/~goofball/index.html so ya i think they will age pretty well... remember though it's the cars body i would be worried about. well thats what im worried about...
I dont want the rust that comes along with an older Honda, im not shure if this is really going to affect 5th gens like it tends to do on the older ones

well that remains to be seen

Jen you are talking about the less common SS tranny.. I'm talking about the real thing, 5spd.

hey hey another one

ok here is another topic of mine.....the longest lude alive....317,000 + KMs. my fifth gear is blown because i didnt replace the half shaft seals (i knew they needed replacing) and what happened was, i was on my way home christmas day night from sarnia on the 401, i got about half way home, (so driving for almost half an hour @ 140KMs/Hr when it just...'Disappeared'...5th gear in the tranny actually sits higher than the other gears so it wasn't getting any oil when i was driving along the flat road for so long and it just went. $125 for a used one at the wreckers, 6 hour job i am guessing....im going to throw an OEM clutch back in it when i do the tranny....the crappy aftermarket one doesnt like it when i race it and beat on it (which is every time i drive the damn thing...Marsh nows this better than anyone here)

My old lude had 300,000 km;s when I sold it. The motor ran SOLID! have no idea if it was ever re-built. I think it was original. The tranny was screwed, But motor still ran. Just change the timing belt at 90-100,000 km's and you will be fine. Also change your oils often,.
